What is the test format of the TOEFL?
The TOEFL has 4 sections, namely the Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing sections.
What questions are asked in the Reading section of the test?
This section tests the student's ability to read as well as comprehend passages whilst at the same time answer questions pertaining to them. This section comprises of 3-4 passages with each passage having 10 questions. This section approximately lasts for 54-72 minutes.
What is comprised in the Writing section of the TOEFL exam?

In the Integrated Writing section, students are required to read a passage, listen to a lecture and create a technical essay based on the passage and the lecture. The time allotted for this section is 20 minutes. In the Independent Essay section, students are given a general topic and within 30 minutes they have to write a general essay.
What can I expect in the Listening section of the TOEFL?
The basic purpose of this section is to assess the student's ability to understand spoken English. This is important because students will have to interact in an academic environment and the ability to listen becomes important. The section comprises of 3-4 lectures with 6 questions in each. It also comprises of 2-3 conversations that have 5 questions in total. The overall duration of the test is 41-57 minutes.
What is included in the Speaking section of the TOEFL?
To be able to attain higher education overseas, students need to smoothly converse in English. The section comprises of 4 question prompts that includes 1 independent question and 3 integrated questions. Students are given a few seconds to think, and the time allotted to speak keeps altering as per the question format. Per question, the student gets an approximate 45 seconds to 1 minute. This section of the test lasts for 17 mins.
What is the total duration of the test?
The total duration of the test is an approximate 3 hours.
How is the scoring criteria in the TOEFL determined?
Scored out of a total of 120, a score of 100 and above is considered great. However, students are recommended to check the requirements of the university of application to understand the required score. Moreover, each section is graded on a scale of 0 – 30 in 1-point increment. The total score is an addition of all these scores.
How long are the TOEFL scores valid for?
The score of the TOEFL exam is valid for a period of 2 years.

The score reporting time is approximately 10 calendar days.
