The University’s name commemorates George Heriot, the 16th century philanthropist and financier to King James, and James Watt, the great 18th century inventor and engineer.history began in 1821 . It finally became Heriot-Watt University in 1966 by Royal Charter.Ranked 24th out of 101 universities in 2008. 7,000 international students bringing a real international flavour.

Heriot Watt University has bases in four campuses; three in the UK - Edinburgh, the Scottish Borders, and Orkney - and one in Dubai.
Edinburgh Campus
Has 8200 staff & student.they offer both catered and self catered accommodation. There’s a very active Students. Association and a wide range of clubs and societies.There are approximately 4,500 students studying at Heriot-Watt’s Edinburgh campus.
Scottish Borders Campus
Home to the School of Textiles & Design. Campus is located in the town of Galashiels. It is easy to access the city which is only an hour’s drive away, and there is a regular bus service from the Edinburgh campus to the campus at Galashiels.
Orkney Campus
Based in Stromness, is home to The International Centre for Island Technology (ICIT), which is part of Heriot-Watt’s prestigious Institute of Petroleum Engineering. ICIT is located in the Old Academy in the town of Stromness in the Orkney Islands off the north coast of Scotland. Heriot-Watt boasts first-rate links with business and industry
