Level 4 to 6 and non-degree Level 7 qualifications:

Earlier: Prior to the changes, students who studied for 24 months were entitled to a one-year open work visa and then a two-year employer-assisted work visa.

After Change: Now, two-year employer-assisted work visa has been removed and a one-year open work visa is retained. However, those who pursue their education outside Auckland can get a two-year open work visa.

Bachelor level qualifications:

Earlier: After 12 months of study students were entitled to a one-year open work visa and a two-year employer-assisted work visa.

After Change: One-year open and two-year employer-assisted visa is replaced with a three-year open work visa.

Post-graduate level qualifications:

Earlier: After pursuing 12 months study, students were entitled to a one-year open work visa and after that, a two-year employer-assisted work visa.

After Change: One-year open and two-year employer-assisted visa is replaced with a three-year open work visa.

Living Expenses:

Students who study in New Zealand can choose from Halls of Residence, Students Hostels, Dormitories, Homestay private apartments and flats. These may approximately range 20000 NZD Per annum. This includes food, clothing, transport, entertainment and accommodation. Visa authorities expect a provision of NZ$ 15,000 towards living expenses.

Accommodation:

Most educational institutions in New Zealand will assist you in finding accommodation while studying in New Zealand. There are various types of accommodation which are available to international students. These are like Halls of Residence / Students Hostel, Homestay, Apartments / Flats. All students on finalizing the institution, should refer to its website for accommodation arrangements.

Health Insurance:

As New Zealand education consultants, we strongly recommended that all international students obtain medical insurance cover because most temporary students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand. A condition of your student visa is that you must have an adequate allowance and this should include coverage of medical costs. It is generally between NZ$ 500 - NZ$ 600.

New Zealand Excellence Awards (NZEA):

NZEA features scholarships across all eight universities, offering an opportunity for Indian students to experience New Zealand excellence in various fields.

This scholarship is funded by Education New Zealand (ENZ) and New Zealand universities catering to Indian students. The number of scholarships in PG programs is 28 and in UG is 3. The value of this scholarship is NZ 5,000 each for PG course and NZ 10,000 each for UG course.

New Zealand Commonwealth Scholarships:

Indian students who apply to master’s degree or PhD can try for the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP). The plan will cover tuition fee, living, travel and health insurance, and establishment allowance.

New Zealand International Doctoral Research Scholarships (NZIDRS):

Funded by the New Zealand government, these scholarships are for Indian students who wish to pursue a PhD in New Zealand. Inclusions under this award are university tuition fee, associated student levies, living stipend (up to NZ$25,000 tax-free) and health insurance coverage (up to NZ$600 annually) for three years. (However, it may vary as per different education providers)

NZ-GRADS New Zealand Global Research Alliance Doctoral Scholarship:

The Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gas Emissions has launched new NZ-GRADS program if you aspire to complete your PhD in agriculture emission science. It covers the following expenses for 36 months (3 years):

SEG Scholarship:

This scholarship program is funded by the Soshi Educational Group. It encourages the study of geophysics and related geosciences for undergraduate (A and B scholarships) and other programs (C scholarships)

Intakes:

To be able to study in New Zealand, you need to be aware of the academic year, which is from mid / late February to early November. Most Universities have 2 semesters with a holiday of 4 weeks in June. Each University operates on slightly different dates and some also offer summer school in the main holiday period from November to February. Intakes are in February, July and sometimes in September.

English Language Requirements:

Bachelors or Masters in New Zealand for international students requires them to be fluent in the English language if they are to succeed at a university in New Zealand. There are many courses available at public and private institutions in New Zealand and elsewhere to assist international students to reach the required level of English language competence. As New Zealand education consultants, we can recommend a waiver of IELTS/TOEFL/PTE wherever possible. A band of 6.0/6.5 for undergraduate & 6.5 / 7.5 for postgraduate courses is desirable.
