The Duolingo English Test is a computer-based proficiency test that evaluates a test taker's Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking skills. Using computer adaptive technology, the Duolingo exam adjusts the difficulty of questions for each individual. Additionally, the test includes a video interview and a writing sample, which, while not graded, are submitted to the institution along with your proficiency score when you report your results.

The Duolingo English Test is entirely computer-based. After purchasing the test, you can take it from the comfort of your home within 21 days of purchase.

- You get a small paragraph with blanks, you need to type the missing letters to complete the text.
Read and Select :
- Words will appear on the screen, and you will need to indicate whether each word is a real English word by selecting 'Yes' or 'No'
Write About the Photo :
- An image will appear on the screen & you need to write about it in 1-3 sentences.
Speak About the Photo :
- An image will appear on the screen & you need to speak about it for 1 minute.
Listen and Type :
- You will hear a sentence & then you need to type it.
Read Aloud :
- A sentence will appear on the screen and you need to read it aloud.
Read, Then Speak :
- You get the question in verbal or written form and you need to speak about it for 1-2 minutes.
Interactive Writing :
- It involves a two-step process where you first write about a given topic for 5 minutes based on a prompt. Following this, you write a follow-up response for 3 minutes based on a second prompt related to your initial writing
Listen, Then Speak :
- You will listen to a prompt, and then speak your response.
Complete the sentences :
- It consists of a passage with several blank spaces, and you have to select a word from the options to complete the sentences.
Complete the passage :
- In this task, you will see two sections of a passage with a missing sentence in the middle and you have to select the best sentence to fill in the blank.
Highlight the answer :
- You will see a question on screen, and you need to find and highlight the answer within the passage.
Identify the Idea :
- You need to pick the main thought expressed in the passage from the given options.
Title the Passage :
- In this task, you need to select the best title for the passage from the given list of options.
Listen and Respond :
- You will read about a situation, and you need to pick the best option to start the conversation.
Summarize the Conversation :
- You need to summarize the conversation concisely in the form of a paragraph, focusing on the key points within 75 seconds.
Duolingo English Test is graded out of 160 in 5-point increments. Generally, 115 is considered to be a good score. Test results include an overall score as well as the scores of Literacy, Conversation, Comprehension, and Production sections. The result is available within 2 days of test completion.
Once the student registers they can select the required test dates.
